No Rush…
In the Links section, you may notice I posted a link to the website of District 14’s current congressman, Connie Mack IV. As far as I’m concerned right now, he himself can be considered the best source of information about the job he’s doing.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m a little frustrated by the way everyone is rushing the presidential race. I understand the fact that there won’t be an incumbent candidate running in 08 is an unusual dynamic, but still his idea of Washington in permanent campaign mode is something that’s got to change.
And, believe it or not, that’s the last thing I want to do here. I think it’s both unfair and disrespectful to the office to force an incumbent Congressman to campaign when he’s barely five months into a two year term. There’ll be plenty time for all that later. November 2008 is still a long way off. So for now, let’s just let the Congressman do his job.
This position may seem strange considering the purpose of this website! But the main reason why I decided to declare my candidacy so early is that it would’ve been dishonest of me to hide my intention until the last minute. The point is while I make no secret of the fact that I intend to run for congress, I’m not necessarily running against anyone at the moment.
What I initially wanted to do this early is discuss the issues and perhaps create some opportunities for different people to get to know each other better. The problem I’ve run into, and the reason I’ve been slow at starting this campaign so far, is that I really don’t feel comfortable out there speaking with people unless I have something firm to stand on.
I’ve been doing some soul searching lately, and it’s occurred to me that I really need to firmly set down the principles I personally stand for in this electoral endeavor. For me, the best way to do that is in writing with a book. So before we get to the videos and the campaigning that’s what’s got to come first, and that is my main priority now…
