Zip Codes

I haven’t actually sat down to write a proper blog entry in a while. You know, the type of thing where I go on and on about myself for paragraphs at a time…

Okay, so hopefully this won’t qualify either, but there are a couple of things I wanted to write about.

First of all, if anyone takes the time to go though the 9-15-07 raw footage, you might notice I made a slightly embarrassing mistake when I didn’t know the exact borders of this district. Well, here’s an excellent Map of District 14. I’ll know better in the future now.

Speaking of this district’s geography, Forbes released its third annual list of the Most Expensive Zip Codes, and three were in this district: #66 is Captiva (33924), #101 is Boca Grande (33921), and #370 is in Naples (34103). I imagine that a significant portion of the current incumbent’s campaign donations also come from those areas too! But hey, with the housing slump, I guess those prices just give the rest of something to shoot for…

And, while we’re on the subject of housing and campaign donations, this is actually a sort of odd time for the campaign right now. We need to get the campaign headquarters/house up and running for the live feed to start in November. The problem is I actually haven’t raised any money for this purpose, and we need about $3,000.

It’s not that no one is willing to donate to this campaign, it’s actually that I haven’t asked anyone yet. So far, I’ve paid for everything out of my own pocket. The main reason for this is that I am reluctant to start raising funds until we have the cameras rolling full time. Since campaign financing is the most contentious ethical issues of election politics, I want to make sure we are as transparent in showing this process as possible.

However, we do need the money now, so I guess I am asking now, but I’m still not going to push the issue too hard just yet. If any individual (no PACs or corporations) happens to read this, and wants to go on record with a donation, we would certainly appreciate it.

One way or another, we will be live in November.

In more important news, I was heartened yesterday to hear retired General John Abizid’s eminently sensible comments that the World could abide a nuclear Iran. As he points out, the proliferation of nuclear weapons is certainly not desirable, but any nation that gets nukes instantly becomes a member of the MAD (mutually Assured Destruction) club, and that means that actually using these weapons becomes a suicidal proposition. Lets just hope that any proponents in this nation pushing to use nuclear bunker busters against Iran understand that too…
