Crazy but not egomaniacal

The nature of this campaign is slowly changing towards a more conventional tone. No doubt you’ve noticed this page is now entitled Jeff George for Congress, but that doesn’t mean I’m still not crazy!

When I look at the occasionally daunting task of running for national office, I still find it amusing the way candidate’s speak in definitive terms about the election by saying “when I win,” or “When I’m elected,” instead of  saying “if you see fit to elect me.”

When did the election process become all about the candidates ego? When do efforts to sound confident crossover into self-delusion?

This weekend, I came across an article with an interesting quote from the ever-capable Natalie Portman:

“I often feel insecure and don’t believe in myself. I think we all do unless we’re some kind of egomaniacal freak! Either you push yourself to do something, or someone else looks at you and believes in you, and then you get belief from that.”

Makes sense to me. But then again, I’m crazy enough to veer off a political campaign blog for some random celebrity quote!

Oh well, at least I’m not talking about Britney Spears…
