INDEPENDENT RAISES MORE THAN $2,000 FOR HOUSE RUN
George gathering support for citizen-focused campaign
FORT MYERS, April 15, 2008 – U.S. House candidate Jeff George has disclosed his fundraising totals for the first quarter of 2008.
The Cape Coral independent gathered $2,193.21 from January through March, bringing the total for his no-party-affiliation District 14 run to $5,893.21.
Congressional candidates must report the amount of money they raise to the Federal Election Commission every three months. Totals for the next quarter are due July 15.
“We expect to be raising substantially more in the coming weeks and months,” George said.
The campaign’s first major fundraising event is set for 7 p.m. Sunday, April 27 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fort Myers, where George will outline his plan for making government more cooperative, responsive and effective.
George wants to raise enough money to cover basic campaign expenses but said he won’t need to equal the totals amassed by others in the race.
“It shouldn’t take millions of dollars to run for the people’s House,” he said.
