A group of business owners from downtown Fort Myers (The River District) organize as the Art and Entertainment Proprietors’ Alliance to be heard at the City Council. At issue is a six year old ordinance that bans 18-20 year olds from entertainment establishments that serve alcohol within the city limits.

While this is an issue for the Fort Myers City Council to decide, not a US Congressman, we wanted to offer a peek at the local process from the perspective of the citizens involved, and compare it to how the press covers the issue, as in this story: Fort Myers clubs as council to lift age ban.

Over the next few months, I’ll be talking with members the Fort Myers City Council about a number of issues. No doubt, this one will be coming up again…
